Lucerne
Medicago Sativa
Lucerne is a perennial legume with a taproot penetrating deep into the soil profile, gathering nutrients and water.
Very good drought tolerance.
Suitable for low rainfall areas.
Does not perform well in clay-based soils.
Lucerne produces quality feed and excellent quality forage.
Lucerne can be sown as a monocultural crop or be included in a pasture with other legumes. In a pasture, it needs to flower once or twice a year to build up root reserves. Lucerne will increase protein levels in the pasture.
Sow lucerne as a monoculture or in a mix for grazing and or hay/silage.
